As the kids get older, they are ready for more responsibility. This year, they have more chores. Each week, they get a different ‘color’ chore group. I developed this method, because I was tired of hearing, “My chores are harder than his chores. He gets the easiest chores, and mine are the hardest.” Ok. We now rotate chores and who does what. Problem solved.
I have some cute clothespins that I use to mark who has which chores. I wrote each boy’s name on a clothespin and use it to mark which chore group they have for the week. Every Sunday, we rotate the clothespins clockwise to give the boys variety and change up the chores. There are some chores they all hate more than others, but the beauty behind it is that they only have them for a week, and then they move on.
I also added a “Bonus Bucks” section of the chore chart. These are things the boys can do at any time to earn an extra buck. I put some chores on there that go the extra mile. I want to reward them when they are helping out and being kind and respectful. I’d be thrilled if I was giving out dollars every day!
